China Palace is a quintessential Chinese American restaurant. When you sit down you get a pot of green tea and some crispy fried noodles with sweet dipping sauce. This place has been the same for thirty years and I'm so glad it is. The servers are friendly and quick and the food is consistently good and extremely reasonably priced. The dumplings, sesame chicken, and fried rice are always great. The lunch combo is a fantastic value and includes soup.
I ordered the chicken and broccoli and a shrimp roll to go. It was really good and reasonably priced, although slightly higher than I usually pay elsewhere. The staff was very friendly and the ambiance in the restaurant was nice. I'd definitely recommend this place and would return.
I was devastated by my last visit. I have been religiously dining at China Palace since I was a child in the 80s, back when it was on Route 6 across from K-Mart. For 40+ years it has been the picture of consistency. The restaurant has new owners, which I'm sure it has had many times in the past, but the difference this time is that the new owners do not respect what made China Palace special. Prices have gone up, quality of ingredients have very, very noticeably gone down and the recipes have been changed. I have been ordering the Double Wonders for the entire time I've been dining here and it has always been exactly the same, short of a change from straw mushrooms to regular mushrooms several years ago. This time the chicken was rubbery (also a problem with the other dish we ordered), the formerly delicious, deeply flavored sauce was nothing like it had always been, and the vegetable mix was far different and also lacking in flavor (celery and carrots do not belong in this dish!). Beyond that, the dumplings and beef on a stick were also different and of lower quality. Portions also seemed a bit smaller and they didn't even provide a plate on which to spoon your entree and your rice, so that it can be mixed. Even the fried noodles for the table were changed and not as good, and our check wasn't delivered with the signature orange slices that were always a treat. To the new owners: I can deal with prices being raised if the quality remains consistent. Please, PLEASE go back to your old suppliers and use the original recipes. I know running a restaurant in 2026 is no easy task, but this is not the way to make it work. And I will hate to stop going to the place that has been a staple for me for the entirety of my life, if you don't stick to what made China Palace great in the first place.
